Tugboats, the semi's of the ocean. They pass Powell River pulling logbooms, construction barges, scows of hogfuel and chips for the local paper mill, train barges, barges loaded with
semi-trailers and chemical tankers and more. And I take their pictures as they pass.

Here you will find some of the photos I have taken of those tugboats as they pull their tows up and down Malaspina Strait and the surrounding waters. Big ones and little ones, good looking tugs and some not so.

Parry

M/V Parry - 2012-09-10

The M/V Parry - one of best looking heritage wooden boats on the coast. She was built in BC as a patrol and tow boat for the Canadian Navy Fishermen's Reserve, as the Talapus, during WWII. Shortly after the war she was sold as surplus. The Parry spent some years working for the Hydrographic Service, charting the B.C. coast. She was eventually converted to a charter boat, and now does fishing charters on the central and north BC coast. A rare but magnificent sighting on Malaspina Strait.
