Tugboats, the semi's of the ocean. They pass Powell River pulling logbooms, construction barges, scows of hogfuel and chips for the local paper mill, train barges, barges loaded with
semi-trailers and chemical tankers and more. And I take their pictures as they pass.

Here you will find some of the photos I have taken of those tugboats as they pull their tows up and down Malaspina Strait and the surrounding waters. Big ones and little ones, good looking tugs and some not so.
I like them all, and if you like tugs - including tugs converted to other uses - I invite you to have a look.

Fraser Navigator

Fraser Navigator - 2016-03-29

Fraser Navigator - A recent name change has seen Catherwood Towing's Miller Richmond become the Fraser Navigator. She is not seen here very often, and then only doing the City Transfer barge run as a relief vessel. Previously used as a construction tug for the JJM Construction Group. She's caught above on Malaspina Strait, and just below on her way out of the Catalyst Mill harbour in front of the "hulks" of the artificial breakwater. The middle photos show her with her change to Catherwood colours not quite finished - the bottom picture shows her in her old JJM colours.

Length: 19.72m Breadth: 7.65m Draft: 2.13m Power: 1406 BHP Year Built: 1974
